Our Host - Jonny Shand
Calorie Comedy Club exists because I know how heavy this journey can feel, physically and emotionally.
I’ve gained weight. I’ve lost weight, for anyone that knows me, knows this is true. I’ve restarted more times than I can count. I’ve had good years, bad years, and years where just getting through the week felt like an achievement.
What I’ve learned is this: people don’t need shouted at, lectured, or scared into changing. They need support, understanding, and a space where they can breathe.
That’s why Calorie Comedy Club isn’t built on pressure or perfection. It’s built on real life, the ups, the downs, the laughter, the awkward weeks, and the moments where things finally start to click.
My approach
I don’t believe there’s one “right way” to do this.
Some people calorie count.
Some people use weight-loss medication.
Some people focus on habits, mindset, or movement.
Most people use a mix and that’s okay.
My role isn’t to dictate or judge. It’s to walk alongside you, help you make sense of what’s going on, and remind you that ‘bad weeks’ don’t cancel good ones
Why the comedy matters
The “Comedy” in Calorie Comedy Club isn’t about stand-up routines or forced fun. It’s about not making this harder than it already is
Laughter breaks tension.
It lowers pressure.
It reminds us we’re human.
We take health seriously, just not ourselves.
Experience (without the waffle)
I’ve spent many years coaching and supporting people through change, including weight loss and wellbeing. I understand nutrition, mindset, and the importance of avoiding shame-based approaches or disordered eating patterns.
More importantly, I understand what it’s like to be in it, not just talking about it from the sidelines.
You’re in safe hands here.
What matters most to me
The thing I’m proudest of isn’t numbers on a scale.
It’s seeing people:
Feel less embarrassed
Show up even after a tough week
Laugh when they expected to feel judged
Start trusting themselves again
That’s the real progress.
If you’re wondering whether you’ll fit in
You don’t need to be confident.
You don’t need to be motivated.
You don’t need a plan or a backstory.
You just need to show up as you are.
We’ll figure the rest out together and probably have a laugh along the way.
PS I’ve lost 50lbs and counting of the weight I’ve regained, come join me!
